This project is as of YET untitled....SO bear with me here
This is initially gonna be a comic book format, so it'll be in a script like format. Feel free to give constructive feedback.
Story/Plot:
The world is a dangerous place. As much as humanity would like to believe itself safe and in control of the world, the facts argue otherwise. Everyday, the news is filled with a testament of these dangers. Natural disasters that consume entire towns, acts of war, crime, and terrorism are growing in the world. For all the defenses and adaptations that mankind has accumulated to protect itself, danger still persists
These are just the threats that the average person recognizes, fed to the populace by mainstream media. Behind the scenes, an entire world of other dangers exist. Dangers impossible to comprehend, much less defend against. These dangers will never be reported on the front page of newspapers, will never be the breaking report on the major news networks, nor made the subject of charity drives or grassroots movements. No big named celebrities or public service announcements will ever warn citizens to protect themselves against them, and so humanity will continue to ignore their presence and disbelieve they even exist.
The truth is simple-monsters exist. Some are human, some once were human, and some only wear human skins to move camouflaged among the masses. All the supernatural creatures of legend lurk in the shadows just beyond the awareness of humanity. Most view humanity as little more than food, tools, toys, or some other resource useful to their cause and discarded with as much thought as we would give a used piece of trash. Others try to pass as humans in relative peace, even going so far as to assimilate to human society. Unfortunately for humans, even the most passive of monsters may possess abilities that present a danger to those around them, no matter how harmless their intentions.
The world at large isn't ready for the truth. And so it chooses to gawk at the blood, shake its head in disapproval and then go about its merry way, never really believing in the dangers that surround it. Unfortunately for mankind, not believing in the dangers doesn't stop them from being a threat. Instead, it creates a vaccum within which these threats thrive.
Not sure where you want comments, but I'll put them here and I will not be offended if you decide to take them down to keep for your own. (I can get squirrely about feedback; I don't want you worrying about offending me).

More questions than critique at this point, you're very much in the early stages. but I'll get the observations out of the way first.
1. Your gaming background is very obvious in this. Not a bad thing. Just something to keep in mind as gamers (and I'm so in this group) think in certain patterns and world building models that not all readers will grasp initially.
2. don't rely too much on the established world of geekdom out there. You use Whedon like he's someone we all know (and we do) BUT I'd rather see you.
3.you've great world building skills, especially in this limited format. (ie, not having an actual storyboard for you storyboard)
Questions:
1.Characters??? (yeah, that's a complicated question right there)
2. Are you going to complicate your monsters or are they all dangerous, no matter their place in the world?
3. how do you plan to make this YOURS. (we sci-fi/fantasy geeks tend to use similar themes...heck, my story has hunters too, so what's your twist(s)? (don't answer that if it gives stuff away, just say "I have twists...they are awesome!") :)
4. Characters???? (sorry, I really want to see who inhabits this world of yours)
How's that? I was gentle, but not cause I had to be. You're still in the early stages (or at least, I am in your early stages) so there really wasn't anything to bust on. You have some good stuff here. I'm definitely interested in seeing more.
I definitely recognize the Whedon-esque overtones used in the basics of this, which was mostly not intended. Characters are indeed coming soon within the next post, I just had to fix what was already here. Thanks for the feedback, but no worries. Everything will be fleshed out in time.
ReplyDeletenot just Whedon though. lots of pen and paper games (though I don't know if you play those) end up in video games and also inspire Whedon and the like. As for the fleshing out, I figured. :)
